Effective Logos Using Negative Space

Effective Logos Using Negative Space

Logos can be an opening door to many clients if your logo is successful. By successful I mean that a person can glance at it and find the meaning of what the company is trying to be viewed as. There are three basic types of logos:

  1. 1. Iconic (Could be an regular or abstract shape)
  2. 2. Logo Type (only includes typography)
  3. 3. Combination Mark (includes a shape and typography)

That being said, I’ll show you a more specific type of logo that applies one of the principles of design,White space.White space can create clever-looking logos by using the negative space that surrounds the elements. In other words, white space can be the opposite space of the elements that creates the logo.

What about the famous FedEx log? It uses negative space too.

The FedEX logo is great! Decided not to use it since it’s been widely used on similar blogs. But I do have to agree it’s a clever-looking logo!

  5. Henry, great write up! This is something we tend to see only used effectively with boutique companies. It gives them a greater sense of openness which is essential with clients.

I think that there are very few large companies that use negative space well (or at all). I think (maybe) Target, GE, AT&T and Pepsi have some understanding of the concept but do not.

    Cheers!

Also FedEx like Manuel pointed out earlier.

Still awaiting more stuff from you..

The negative space logos are imprinted in my thoughts and give me lots of food for thought.
